Vocal Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed between the party and United Democratic party Alliance (UDA) is useless.
According to Sifuna, the MOU died the day X blogger Albert Ojwang’ died at the Central police Station after torture to death by the police officers, among other reported extra-judicial killings, rendered the Joint Framework dead.
“Where we’ve reached in this country, we want action, we don’t want words. If you ask me, as Sifuna, that agreement ODM signed with UDA is of no use. How is it possible that we sign an agreement saying ‘don’t kill our youth,’ then a young man is taken from his home, brought to Nairobi, and killed in a cell? Just the other day, two men were taken from Elgeyo Marakwet, beaten, had their hands cut off, and dumped in Nakuru,” Sifuna explained.
He further stated that as long us the Kenya Kwanza government does not account for the deaths and advocate for change as agreed in the MOU, the political union does hold any impact at all, as they cannot keep on talking of the same issue over and over again.
“That is why I’m saying the MOU between ODM and UDA is meaningless. It doesn’t matter what else Ruto does; that agreement is dead. We can’t keep talking every day,” he declared.
Sifuna remarks comes he declared he has no understanding and existing of the Broad-Based government, terming it as non-existent, contradicting the working relationship between his party and President William Ruto’s ruling party. Sifuna has insisted that the structure of government is an illusion of the Kenya Kwanza government and does not exist in Kenya.
“This thing called broad-based government, I don’t know where it exists. Personally, I don’t recognize any entity called broad-based. There is a government of Kenya Kwanza under the leadership of President Ruto, and every CS serving in that government serves the Kenya Kwanza government. Some of the individuals who joined the government recently think they joined to represent their ethnic communities,” Sifuna remarked.
However, Sifuna had agreed to go slow on the government by his party leader Raila Odinga, even as the party condemned the continued killing of young Kenyans on Friday 10.
