Kimilili Constituency legislator Didmus Barasa, has assured President William Ruto of Mulembe Nation’s support for his re-election bid in 2027 general election.
Barasa was speaking during a church service at Kivaywa comprehensive School in Kakamega, where the president, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, CS Deborah Mulongo, MP John Waluke, Governor Fernandes Barasa among other leaders in the region were in attendance.
Using a Luhya saying, Barasa said that a visitor in the community must drink two cups of tea for satisfaction when they visit, which they strogly hold onto, and will ensure that the president serves his two terms from 2027, as he fully has the support of the community.
“We want to assure you that our people are with you, and they will support you. As it is with the Luhya custom, a visitor must drink two cups of tea, ndio asiumwe na tumbo when they visit, and for that, we must give you two terms in 2027,” Barasa stated.
He further urged the president not to be bothered by the shallow winds of the opposition, as they have no meaningful agenda for the people of Kenya, as their strategy is to destruct him from delivering his development agenda to the people of Kenya. He likened the opposition led by DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and LPP Martha Karua to the Pharisees in the Bible, who never amounted to anything.
“Today in your leadership, there are pharisees in the way of your leadership, who want to destruct you from delivering developments to Kenyans, as they are jobless, and have no agenda do not be bothered by them, they will amount to nothing. They want to divide the country, do not give them the opportunity,” he further remarked.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Vihiga Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala, who faulted the opposition team for trying to divide the Luhya community, stating that the community will not give into their politics, but ensure that Ruto secures a second chance.
