Gatundu North Member of Parliament Elijah Kururia has slammed former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Citizens Party (DCP), as insignificant, and a very small party.
Speaking during an interview, Kururia further hit at Gachagua as unsure of his political move, and lack of purpose as political leader, crucial principles a party leader should pose, saying he cannot join such a party.
“These are small party we have witnessed with the likes of Wajackoya and Raila talking about, and that is how President William Ruto defeated them! I cannot join DCP if Gachagua is the party leader, Rigathi does not have clarity in political calculations, he acts without knowing the direction,” Kururia remarked.
Kururia who was elected on an independent ticket, and has since been a close ally of President William Ruto, slammed his colleagues from UDA supporting Gachagua and his opposition counterparts as his political ambition is misguided.
“You are getting me out of Ruto’s camp to go and follow someone who is not vying! Ruto is the president and he will be vying, Why would I join him so that he can tell me who will vie between Matiang’i and Kalonzo!” He further remarked.
Gachagua launched his political party on Thursday, May 14 in Nairobi, which he said was honoring the call of Kenyans to form a political outfit that is pro-people and inclusive. The party running under the slogan ‘Sikiliza Wakenya’, has brought a political turn in the country’s politics.
Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, has been elected the party’s deputy party leader on interim basis, with Gachagua citing that the party leadership will include both millennials and Gen Zs as top officials to spearhead the party’s leadership and democracy.
He further clarified to his supporters that their will be no direct tickets for aspirants, as nominations will be on merit and fair, a goal championed with democracy unlike his former political vehicle UDA.
Gachagua launched his party days after officially resigning from UDA, citing his core fallout with the president as lies, yet he being a truthful man, detests lies. His fellow opposition leaders further congratulated him for his new party, making a change to their call to unseat Ruto in 2027.
