Mumias East lawmaker Peter Salasya has asked the first accused in the murder of X blogger Albert Ojwang’ at Central Police Station not to compromise his stand on being innocent and bow to the pressure and be the sacrificial lamb.
Salasya urged Constable James Mukhwana to be scared as Kenyans are behind him, as they understand the conspiracy behind the case and very willing to get him lawyers.
“Mukhwana aki najua huwa unaonja kidogo kama mimi sema tu ukweli. They will promise you heavens but you will get nothing out of those promises. Just stand firm if you need lawyers Kenyans are ready to present to you 100 lawyers and won’t ask anything from you bro,” Salasya wrote.
On Friday, Lawyer Danstan Omari said that he will take up the case, as he knows his client is innocent and will not allow him to rot behind jail walls, as the real murders of Ojwang’ enjoy freedom.
According to Omari, the case will be the easiest in his career, although acknowledging intimidation from the state and other powerful individuals, he said he will not relent until the truth comes out before the courts.
Despite asking the court to free his client on a cash bail, the Court directed that Mukhwana be detained until June, Firiday 20, for the prosecution team to conclude with the investigations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest of Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Talam in Eldoret on Friday evening and handed over to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA). According to the DCI, Talam had switched off his phone on Thursday, as officers tracked him down.
The arrest brings to three the number of individuals in custody in connection with the death of Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody under suspicious circumstances. Another female officer linked to the case was also questioned for several hours on Friday and is expected to face further interrogation.
Appearing before the Senate Security DCI boss Mohamed Amin, told the committee that Talam should be treated as the main suspect following his recent remarks on the ongoing case, should be treated with a lot of weight.
