President William Ruto has mourned former Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari, as a wise and liberator for the people of Nigeria and the continent.
In his message of condolence to Nigeria, Ruto described the fallen head of state as a champion in fighting corruption and prosperity of not only Nigeria but the continent as well, which he gladly shared wisdom to see African countries propel to development and prosperity, as well as integrated economic relations in Africa.
He further remarked on Buhari’s notable efforts to combat terrorism in North Nigeria, that threatened his tenure, with Boko Haram kidnapping dozen of school girls and killing a significant number of students in the North.
“President Buhari demise is a loss not only to the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but also to the entire African Continent, which has been immeasurably enriched by his wisdom and steadfast commitment to the liberation and prosperity of the Nigerian people. President Buhari championed the fight against corruption, advanced regional security initiatives to counter terrorism, and supported Africa’s agenda for economic integration,” Ruto mourned.
He further highlighted how his visit to the country in 2016, further enhanced the relation between the two countries, as his congratulatory message of after winning August 2022 General Election, Ruto said showed Buhari’s respect to democracy and the will of the people.
“Kenya recalls with warmth his State Visit to Nairobi on January 2016, which marked a significant milestone in our bilateral relations. We also remember with sincere appreciation his message of congratulations in August 2022, following my election as President of Kenya, a testament to his abiding faith in democratic governance and to the enduring relations between Kenya and Nigeria,” he further mourned.
Buhari died at the age of 82 on Sunday evening, while receiving treatment at a clinic in London by former presidential spokesman Garba Shehu X account.
“President Buhari died today in London at about 4:30 p.m. (1530 GMT), following a prolonged illness,” President Bola Tinubu spokesperson posted on X.
