President William Ruto has told off his critics claiming that he will not win in the next general elections, for failing to keep up the promises he made in 2022.
Speaking on Wednesday in Karen in a two-day retreat for top government officials, Ruto said that his focus is not in the next general elections, but on how to transform Kenya.
He said the transforming Kenya is not an easy path, but he together with his team, will see Kenya transform for the sake of the next generation.
“Our focus is not the next election; our focus is in the transformation of Kenya. We must do what we must do, as long as it is the exercise of transforming our nation, the next election notwithstanding. The next election is not our focus. If there is a focus, let it be the transformation and foundation we are laying so that the next generation can be different,” Ruto stated.
Directly hitting his critics about the promises he made during campaigns, Ruto said that none of the promises will go unfulfilled, as he is committed to ensure that all the set promises come to reality.
The head of state further called on his team, ‘Team Government of Kenya’, to help him actualize his promises, which he claimed has been postponed for way to long.
“I have no intentions whatsoever escaping on any commitment that we made we intend to keep them because that is how we are going to transform Kenya, and I’m committed 100% with the transformation of this country. I want to persuade you as my team, the government of Kenya team for us to know that there is no two ways about this. It has to be done for Kenya to change we have postponed the things we were supposed to do for far too long,” he stated.
In what appeared to be a lesson to his political colleagues, the president said that his decision to start reforming the country on the hard part, will bear fruit, and is achievable in the first term, and the culture of waiting for things to be done on the second term is misguided.
“Why waste a nation’s time waiting for a second term merely because you are working on difficult things. Why don’t you finish the difficult things now, if there is a second term, there is plenty of things to be done, and if it can be done in 5 years why do you want to do it in 10 years? That is how we haven’t made progress as a nation,”
According to him, the political class makes decisions understanding that they are right, but make decisions on how they will remain politically relevant.
