Three officers in Free Area Nakuru Town, Nakuru County were shot in a gang attack on wee hours of Monday, June 2, by unknown gang.
According to Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara, one officer from Bondeni police station died in the 1.29am ambush, while two sustained injuries from the attack, and currently receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
Kibaara further confirmed that a number of suspects have been arrested following the incident, and an AK-47 recovered from the unfortunate incident.
“We lost one of our officers from Bondeni police station this morning at around 1.29am, following an attack by unknown gang men at Free Area, while two others are receiving treatment at Nakuru Level Five Hospital. The three were on a patrol duty in the area. We have also arrested suspects following the incident and recovered an AK-47 believed to have been used to commit the crime,” he confirmed.
The incident comes after controversial remarks by Nakuru Town East MP Samuel Arama, who said during an interview on Friday, May 30, said that security in Nakuru was perfect, after a businessman was killed and remarked that it was normal for people to be killed.
Arama further commended the police efforts in dealing with insecurity, and their efforts to working swiftly in identifying the individuals behind the recent killings.
“The issue of people being killed at times becomes normal, It’s not something we can say that security is bad in Nakuru. I can say the security in Nakuru is perfect, and those are just isolated cases. In all the incidents, we have found out it’s one criminal involved, and we even know his name. The police have told us who he is, and they are continuing to pursue him,” Arama remarked.
He also confirmed that he had met with Nakuru county police commander, to chat way forward for strategics to improve the state of security in Nakuru town. He further defended the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen, following the recent increase of insecurity in some parts of the country to the systematic changes in the ministry witnessed in the past year.
