Nandi senator Samson Cherargei has slammed Members of County Assembly (MCAs), from Trans Nzoia County who went to receive Governor George Natembeya at the Airport in Kisumu.
Natembeya was returning from Nairobi, where he was arrested by EACC officers over irregular procurement on key projects in the county, involving KSh 1.4 billion, together with his top county officials including chief officers and directors.
According to Cherargei, the MCAs are a national embarrassment, as instead of filing a motion to impeach Natembeya over poor leadership, they are dancing in jubilation to receive him. He further added that as a country, Kenya should use constitution to call for accountability instead of normalizing corruption.
“The Trans Nzoia County MCAs are a national embarrassment instead of beginning impeachment proceedings against Governor Natembeya over poor development, corruption and poor governance they are busy rolling out red carpet for him. As a country we must choose either to use constitutional accountability mechanisms or normalise corruption!” Cherargei wrote.
Earlier, Cherargei had called for the impeachment of Natembeya over tribalism and frustrating his deputy governor Philomena Kapkor, remarks which were refuted by not only residents but Natembeya himself, citing that his cabinet contains tribes living in Trans Nzoia, and terming the remarks by the senator as baseless and reckless.
Natembeya is among the few leaders from the county, who have criticized the Kenya Kwanza regime, for failing to deliver, from the education to the health sector crippling the county’s development progress, asking President William Ruto to reconsider his promises he Makes during his development tours and rallies in the country.
Natembeya has insisted that his troubles are politically instigated for calling on Luhya Unity, and see how the community will eradicate poverty and spark development, which top leaders from the community have failed to deliver after a long time in government.
He further said that the community is geared towards uniting and to strategize on how they will be able to have high political bargaining power at the national level in 2027 and going beyond. According to Natembeya despite the community having a lot of votes, it has remained behind in national politics, and steering other communities into leadership, which he says he will fight for the rightful position Luhya community.
