Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi, has advised Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya to get serious lawyers, or risk getting convicted.
The celebrated lawyer acknowledged that Natembeya is a good leader, and the charges he is facing are criminal charges and not political rally, that will require serious lawyers to defend his case. His legal team consists of Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah and Ndegwa Njiru.
According to Havi, Natembeya’s current lawyers might jeopardize his case, and asked him to get lawyers like Senior Counsels Fred Ngatia and Elijah Ongoya, who can read his case before the judges.
“George Natembeya is a good man. However, he is facing a criminal case and not a political rally. I advise him to get serious Advocates like Ngatia or Ongoya who can sit down, read, conceive a defense plan and throw out that case. Those ones will only land him a conviction,” Havi wrote.
Earlier drama ensued as three of Natembeya’s aide were abducted by unknown people outside Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday Mid-morning, an incident that was confirmed by his DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa. Among those abducted is Felix Sialo, the Director of Communications.
During the mention, EACC requested 16 more days to complete investigations, and submit evidence in the corruption case against Natembeya, a request that was granted by Anti-Corruption Magistrate Zipporah Gichana, giving them to June 16, when the case will be mentioned.
Natembeya is facing graft allegation case amounting to KSh1.4 billion, that involves three key projects in the county, including phase two of the construction of Kenyatta Stadium, the ongoing construction of county headquarters and the Tom Mboya Mother Baby Hospital.
Natembeya faulted Kiminini Constituency legislator Maurice Bissau for instigating his troubles through political infights. According to Natembeya, Bissau has been propagating false allegations about him owning huge parcels of land in the county in his interviews and funerals.
Natembeya asked Bissau to present the evidence in court, and argue his evidence. He further attributed his troubles to emphasis on Luhya unity, that has set him apart with Prime Cabinet Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, whom he faulted have failed to champion for the development of the region despite being in top political positions for a long time.
