
The Dailies cover the dark events from Wednesday Gen Z led anti-government protests, that witnessed injuries, deaths and businesses counting loses after massive looting.
What stood out is the irony that the Kenyan youths were fighting police brutality and were met with even response of more brutal force, after nine people succumbed to gunshot wounds, while 400 were injured including protesters, journalists and police officers according to Kenya National Commission of Human Rights. (KNCHR).
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), directed the stop of live coverage of the Gen Z protests citing that the move was posing a threat to the national security. The move by CA saw transmission signal of KTN, NTV and K24 switched off.
The protest was witnessed in 27 counties across the country, united to remember their fallen colleague killed by the police in June 2024 at Parliament.
Referring to the switch off of their signals, People Daily condemns the move by CA to shutdown their station, it was a move to suppress the freedom of the press and taking the country to the dark days of the Moi era.
