Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for destroying the Mt. Kenya region in his quest for political revenge, after he was impeached.
Speaking after chaotic Saba Saba day protests that saw a majority of businesses in the region looted and destroyed Wambugu further accused Gachagua for radicalizing his own people to cause mayhem in the region, calling on the people not to allow him succeed in his ‘dangerous’ quest.
“As he calls people names Gachagua is radicalizing the Mountain, against the Mountain. If we allow him to succeed he will destroy us in his angry bitter quest to revenge for being politically outmaneuvered,” Wambugu stated.
Wambugu is not the only leader who has linked Gachagua to involvement in Gen Z protests; National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accused Gachagua for sponsoring goons and sending kiles to his come, calling fr his arrest by DCI and NPS.
His remarks coming after Saba Saba protests that witnessed over 10 protesters killed across the country according to a report by Kenya National Commission of Human Rights (KNCHR), as of Monday, July 7, with Kerugoya Central CDF offices in Kirinyaga County were set ablaze by protesters.
In Meru County, Magunas Spermarket was torched, Quickmart Supermarket in Zimmerman was also looted and destroyed by youths, Magunas Supermarket in Kahawa Wendani, making off with goods of unknown value amid the chaos. Additionally, irate youth set the Kanjo (Viwandani) police base ablaze in Naivasha.
Of the 11 recorded some were recorded in Olkalou, Kiritiri (Embu county), and Kitengela, two in Ngong road, however, a number of bodies were recorded seen scattered on the road.
In his address after accessing CBD yesterday evening, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen praised the police for doing a good in securing the property in CBD as well protecting lives during protests. Murkomen attributed the success to an increase in the number of police officers managing protests.
He further lauded Kenyans for maintaining peace in marking the 35th Saba Saba anniversary, acknowledging the right to hold peaceful protests.
