Few hours after Wayu community started moving back to their homes after a week of horror and attacks, with declarations of peace calls and living in unity, one house was burnt down in Dukana location, North Horr Constituency on Saturday, May 24 at 7.30pm.
According to reports, the arson was conducted by unknown people, as the owner was seated outside the mother’s house, escaping death by a whisker. According to the owner, the assailant came from the back of his house, before setting it on fire.
The neighbours efforts to help in putting the fire off was thwarted after the intervention of police officers, who dispersed them, and allegedly beating them up.
During the incident, one the neighbours identified as Mzee Elema Galgallo, who was in company of others helping the rest to put off the fire sustained severely injured on the head, the injuries they claim was inflicted by police officers at the scene.
The fresh attack barely comes less than 24 hours, when normalcy had started to return in the area, with residents finding shelter at the Catholic Mission, following last weekends attack that left over 766 families displaced and four people dead.
Leaders in the region have continuous called for peace in the county, urging residents to look for peaceful methods of resolving conflicts, including mediation and dialogue, instead of taking revenge and action by themselves, but wait on security officials.
Speaking during the opening of Marsabit County Trade Fair earlier this week, Governor Mahmoud Ali called on residents to maintain and promote peace in the county to attract investors and development in the marginalized county.
As peace in the county remains uncertain, DCC Dukana Sub-County Peter Kimani said that the government and security forces demand that the weapons and guns used to carry out the murder must be recovered, as security operations and patrol in the area continue.
