Residents of Dukana location North Horr constituency hosted a joint prayer meeting on Monday, May 26, at Dukana Nomadic girls School to pray for peace and calmness in the area following a clash between Gabbra and Wayu communities.
The prayer included Catholic, Protestants ,Muslims and Traditional leaders in Dukana location who organised for the general community prayer. According to the organizers, they prayer was aimed to seek God for forgiveness, and ask Him to provide Peace to Dukana community.
In the past two weeks, the area has witnessed community chaos that has led to displacement of residents, lost lives and torched houses, believed to be an aftermath of political instigation of hatred towards one community.
The meeting was also attended by Dukana Deputy County Director (DCC) Peter Kimani and area Member of county Assembly (MCA) Kushe Adano Boru, who have constantly called for peace in the area.
Earlier, Boru had asked the Kenya Police Reserve (KPR), to mention those leaders instigating conflict in the area, and urged residents to live in unity, and restore the calmness that the ward has enjoyed for years.
The prayer meeting comes, after youths in the area urge political aspirants in the 2027 general elections to stop using division in seeking votes, but instead convince the electorates through their manifestos and development agenda for the people.
The youths currently holding consultative meetings around the area, meeting both conflicting communities Gabbra and Wayu, condemned the recent killings and displacement of residents. They urged residents to coexist in peace, as from the conflict few political leaders showed need for peace among them.
Despite suspects being arrested, Kimani urged residents to focus on promoting peace, a major issue to spark development in the area, remarks echoes by governor Mahmoud Ali amd human rights activist Nuria Gollo in past events.
18 suspects were linked to the clashes were arrested, as investigations continue, with preliminary investigation linking an area MCA, and powerful politician working with the national government at a particular ministry for instigating the clashes between Gabbra and Wayu communities.
During his Jukwaa la Usalama tour of the county, Interior Cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen asked politicians to stop inciting citizens as the electioneering year slowly approaches.
