The National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday 18, identified and interdicted two officers captured shooting an unarmed civilian selling masks in a chilling incident during Tuesday Protests in Nairobi CBD.
The two officers identified are Constables Klinzy Barasa Masinde and Duncan Kiprono were captured in a viral video cornering and beating up Kariuki before Barasa pulled the rigger and shot him on the head along Moi Avenue and walking away leaving him for death.
“The two police officers have now been interdicted and are currently being processed by the Homicide Team at DCI headquarters, pending further action,” read the statement from NPS.
NPS also confirmed that the identified hawker was recuperating at the Kenyatta National Hospital, who Dr. William Sigilai had undergone a successful surgery, although was still in a critical position, and remained under intensive care unit for observation by the medical team.
“The National Police Service (NPS) deeply regrets this unjustified act and commiserates the victim and his family, while reaffirming its full commitment to ensuring justice is served,” read statement from the service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
Earlier, Nyaga had clarified that the officers captured with laptops during protests took them at the Central police Station, and were recovered from a suspect who had stolen from businesses premises in CBD during the protests.
He urged the affected businessmen selling laptops to visit the station and identify the recovered stolen items by goons who vandalized shops on Tuesday. The issue has been condemned by Nairobi Archbishop Philip Anyolo, who has directed the faithful of Catholic to conduct three day prayer for the nation.
