After hours of being moved around by the police, social media user Kevin Moinde was released by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers on June, Monday 9 in the afternoon.
The release came after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), acknowledging Moinde’s case being in their office under investigation, following alleged defamatory remarks against Deputy Inspector General KIPS Eliud Lagat through a social media post.
However in the press statement, ODPP stated that after analyzing the case, they did not find enough evidence to charge Moinde, stating that the office is committed to execute is duties in accordance with the law.
“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) acknowledges receipt of the inquiry investigation file on Mr. Kelvin Moinde. Upon careful perusal of the inquiry file, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is satisfied that there is NO sufficient evidence to charge Mr. Kelvin Moinde. The ODPP remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the law, public interest, and administration of justice,” read the statement.
The Kisii based blogger was arrested on Thursday last week in Tendere village, Gucha sub-County in Kisii County, where he was later transferred at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.
Moinde was arrested and booked at the same police station with deceased Migori X blogger Albert Ojwang’, who the National Police Service (NPS), claim hit himself on the walls of the cell before he was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
NPS has since distanced itself from involvement on the death of the well known media personality, bowing to pressure from the public and Ojwang’s family, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Dougals Kanja on Monday morning confirmed the interdiction of senior officer OCS at Central Police Station and all officers on duty when the incident happened until investigations have been concluded.
