Three people have been arrested in Trans Nzoia County after being found in possession of two tyres vandalized from EACC five vehicles during their raid at Governor George Natembeya home Kitale home.
Police officers in Trans Nzoia arrested the three in Kiminini on June, Wednesday, 11 with the two tyres believed to be from vandalized cars, as and suspected to be looking for customers to buy the tyres.
According to John Onditi, Kiminini Sub-County Police Commander, the three were arrested in a rental house within Kiminini market. Onditi confirmed that the arrest follows a thorough investigation that has been going on for weeks, after chaos witnessed at the governor’s Milimani home during the raid.
“The arrest was successful from the intelligence reports that our officers received from members of the public. We responded and managed to arrest the three with complete tyres in their house. We suspect that the three were looking for market for the tyres,” Onditi confirmed.
The three identified as Nickson Mutuku, Jacob Wekesa and Kevin Wasike are expected to be arraigned at the Kitale Law Courts to face charges of possession of stolen property.
“It is either the three suspects vandalized the EACC vehicles, or bought the tyres with a motive of resale for a profit. However, it is still an offence, and they will be charged with handling stolen goods. They are accomplices of the main criminals,” Onditi further remarked.
The arrest making progress in the probe of the chaos witnessed in Kitale, as the police boss urged members of the public to continue volunteering information that could lead to arrest of the remaining criminals.
EACC conducted a raid at Natembeya’s homes in Kitale and Nairobi, in search of evidence following allegations of graft amounting to KSh 4 billion, that included irregular awarding of tender in three key county projects that are currently ongoing.
However, Natembeya has linked his troubles to settling political scores and his calls for the unity of the Mulembe community. He said that he will not be intimidated by the acts, as residents from the Luhya community terming him the community’s Kingpin, after failed leadership from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
