Police in Migori County have launched investigations into the killing of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer whose body was found at her residence in Suna East on Christmas Day.
The officer, identified as Second Lieutenant Synthia Awuor Mboya, 28, was found dead in her bedroom at Nyahera Village with visible injuries. The discovery prompted an immediate police response and the opening of a homicide investigation.
Authorities have since arrested the officer’s husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law as part of ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. Police say the arrests are meant to help investigators piece together events leading up to the incident.
Detectives revisited the scene and recovered several items believed to be relevant to the case, including clothing suspected to belong to the husband. A search of his shop in Migori town also led to the recovery of a panga with suspected blood stains.
Police further reported that two of the officer’s mobile phones are missing, a development that has raised additional questions for investigators.
According to police, the husband claimed he returned home late at night and found the house doors open before discovering his wife’s body.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and they have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects. The motive behind the killing has yet to be established.
