The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has officially appointed Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe, currently serving as the auxiliary bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, to a new role as the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Wote.
The Vatican announced the appointment on Saturday, marking a significant development for the growing Catholic community in Wote. Bishop Kamomoe’s new assignment is expected to bolster pastoral care and support the ongoing expansion of the diocese.
Bishop Kamomoe has been widely recognized for his dedication and service within the Archdiocese of Nairobi, where he has worked closely with Archbishop Philip Anyolo. Known for his hands-on approach in community engagement, youth mentorship, and interfaith dialogue, Bishop Kamomoe has earned respect for his ability to connect with the faithful at the grassroots level.
His transfer to Wote comes at a time when the diocese is experiencing rapid growth in population and increasing pastoral needs. As auxiliary bishop, Kamomoe will assist the diocesan bishop in managing the spiritual and administrative responsibilities across the region.
The Diocese of Wote, located in Makueni County, is one of the newer Catholic dioceses in Kenya. It has been focusing on expanding its outreach, building new parishes, and increasing access to educational and health facilities run by the Church. Bishop Kamomoe’s experience is expected to significantly contribute to these initiatives.
