Nyandarua County Government has been left counting loses, following the June 25 anniversary by Gen Zs that happened yesterday across 27 counties in the country.
According to the county government, a majority of the vehicles were parked outside Olkalou Sub-County, did not survive the wrath of the protesters, which saw five of the 16 vehicles were in the incident, with also saw 18 county government motorbikes burnt.
During the what started as peaceful protests before turning into deadly and destructive protests, police in Olkalou were engaged in running battles with protesters, lobbing teargas at crowds of protesters who barricaded roads with stones.
Similar events were witnessed in Juja Kiambu, after protesters tried to storm Makongeni police station, when police responded with gunshots, killing one person, as student identified as Victor otieno.
The destruction was also witnessed in Carrefour Ruiru and Naivas in Nyeri looted, as well as shops around Koja and OTC looted and vandalized. According to the Senior Economic Advisor of the president Moses Kuria, the most affected counties in the protest were from Mt. Kenya Region.
” Mt Kenya paid a disproportionately heavy price yesterday Again. There will be no elections in 2027. I was vindicated yesterday,” Kuria wrote.
In report released by Kenya National Commission of Human Rights (KNCHR), the protesters resulted to 8 deaths by Wednesday evening. The casualties were from ix counties including two in Machakos and Makueni, one in Nakuru, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu and Nyandarua. However, 83 victims were referred for specialized treatment.
Additionally, the Commission reported that 61 protesters were arrested and detained in various protests across with more than 400 people injured across the country including police officers, journalists and protesters.
