Joining other Kenya Kwanza leaders to condemned Wednesday protests, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the happenings of June 25 Anniversary was out of question.
According to him, the protests tainted negatively the image of the country, putting scars to businesses like what was witnessed 17 years ago in the 2007/2008 post election violence. He termed the protests most violent and anarchist day in the history of the country.
“Mimi nimekaa kwa siasa kidgo, Lakini yale yalitokea jana katika nchi yetu, ile aibu tulipata jana, ile hasara tulipata jana, yale maovu yaliendeka jana, has never been witnessed in the country since the Post Election Violence of 2007/2008,” Kindiki stated.
He accused religious leaders and the diplomatic community fueling unrest, as their calls to the Gen Zs to exercise their right to demonstrate led to massive destruction of property and attacks aimed towards government institutions. He lamented that some police stations were attacked and guns and ammunition stolen.
“Today I want to ask those church and religious leaders, I want to ask those diplomats and political leaders whose statements incited our young people, what they saw yesterday – the destruction and looting, is that what they wanted? Is that what they were looking for?” he questioned.
Kindiki who was speaking in Kambu Makueni County during a women’s empowerment program, warned the protesters that the government will not take a back seat and watch few individuals destroying the nation in the name of peaceful protests, plunging the country into a chaotic state.
“I want to assure you on behalf of President Ruto that we will not allow Kenya to go down to drain. We will not sit and watch Kenya burning and descending to anarchy. Going forward, the government of Kenya will do whatever it takes to make sure what happened yesterday, will never happen in the soil of Kenya,” Kindiki remarked.
During his state address to the Nation, CS Interior Kipchumba Murkomen claimed that Wednesday protests were planned, funded, and politically motivated violence, and not a random event, but well organised, pre-mediated and executed by the planners.
Murkomen send a stern warning to the ‘planners’, that the government will ensure they are brough to book, as investigations into the protests have kicked on.
