Former Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence after President William Ruto’s allies called for his arrest following the chaos witnessed on June 25 anniversary protests.
In his 18 point statement, Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza government for using excessive force and live bullets on unarmed protesters, in the bid to intimidate the peaceful protesters.
According to the former DP, the government fully understands the cause of Gen Z protests in the country, as failed promises made to them and their parents, and should stop pretending.
“The cause of Gen-Z protests is well known by the government and every Kenyan. Mr. Ruto, you know you promised our young people jobs and economic liberation. You know what you have delivered to them and their parents,” he stated.
Gachagua alleged that the goons witnessed last week Tuesday disrupting protests were hired by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, with his team changing the tactics on Wednesday protests as they were asked to destroy properties and loot businesses.
“Mr. Ruto, you are well aware that under your instructions, genuine Gen Z protesters were blocked in their thousands on Kiambu Road and Thika Road, where no businesses were looted . Your police allowed goons into town at their expense to go and cause mayhem and place the blame on Gen Zs,” he alleged.
According to Gachagua, the loot on businesses in CBD was targeted for specific businessmen, after the County Government issued their names to the looters, a move he claimed was facilitated by the government.
” In cohort with the police, these rogue officials and politicians led goons for a targeted looting spree to intimidate and coerce them to support this unpopular regime. We are well aware that most of the businesses were left intact last evening, only to be found looted in the morning,” he further alleged.
Not ending his attacks, the DCP party leader accused the government for deliberately switching off signal of NTV, KTN and K24, to allow the state sponsored goons to loot and destroy property under police watch. He slammed CS Kipchumba Murkomen for what he called sideshows of visiting looted shops on Thursday morning.
“We have seen the CS for interior pretentiously visiting shops that were looted by state-sponsored goons in an attempt to hide his guilt. Mr. Murkomen, Kenyans are not fools,” Gachagua stated.
