Principal Secretary (PS), State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has warned politicians against using the death of Homabay X blogger Albert Ojwang’ to advance their political agenda.
Omollo said that suspects in the murder of Ojwang’ are well known, and they shall be held responsible through a justified process as provided by the Constitution. He faulted the recent remarks by politicians which he said do not call for justice but meant for personal political gains.
The PS further acknowledged that Ojwang’ lost his life in the hands of police at Central Police Station in Nairobi, after he was arrested following a complaint raised by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Eliud Lagat, over remarks that could tarnish his name, made by Ojwang’.
“It is on record that Ojwang’ lost his life in the hands of the police, and as we speak and investigations continue, the suspects are already known and we must take them through the due process of the law, let this not be a motive of those hanging not for justice on the unfortunate death of this young man to agitate for their political agenda,” Omollo cautioned.
According to him, the opposition fraction in the country calling for justice of the slain teacher have no intentions of seeking justice, but politicking the issue for their own advantage.
Howver, calls continue to mount from members of the public and human rights group for Lagat to resign ,as he is the main person of interested mentioned in the case, and his persistence in the office might interfere with the evidence during investigations by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), into the matter.
Earlier, IPOA had reported that the CCTV footage from the night of the unfortunate incident was tampered with, with police on Friday, June 10, arresting a Nairobi based technician who admitted that he was paid KSh 3000 to delete the footage from Central Police Station.
