Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale has said that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has no votes in the region, following his acts of betrayal to the Luhya community.
Speaking in Ikolomani Kakamega County on Tuesday, Khalwale stated that Odinga has used the party as a tool to get votes from the Luhya community, and take development to his Nyanza region leaving the region underdeveloped, despite entering into partnership with President William Ruto and former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
“ODM ni chombo yenye Raila anatumia kubembeleze waluhya kupata kura akishapata kura, anaenda Nairobi anafanya bargaining na National Government vitu yenye anapata anapeleka kwao. We are not interested in that type of leadership,” Khalwale remarked.
He told the president that the Luhya community had lost faith in Odinga, as he uses their votes to bargain for development projects that never reaches the community, he cautioned Ruto against depending on him to solicit the community’s votes for him in 2027.
“Mr. President kama tegemeo lako ni kwamba Raila atakutafutia kura hapa Luhya land, let me tell you in broad day ight, Raila tumepoteza imani kwake. Because he bargains using the Luhya votes to get development which he denies the Abaluhya people,” he further remarked.
His remarks coming days after he urged the president to stop listening to leaders, and focus on listening to the people, as the political temperatures in the country are not favourable to the peace of the nation.
Khalwale further slammed ODM Governor Fernandes Barasa, whom he claimed was imposed to the people of Kakamega by Cabinet Secretary Cooperatives Wycliffe Oparanya and Kakamega Women Representative Elsie Muhanda. Khalwale vowed to unseat him in 2027, urging residents of Kakamega to give him an opportunity.
“I don’t know where Oparanya and Elsie Muhanda got this person from and imposed him on us. We are not interested in Barasa, we don’t want him, we don’t need him. What Barasa was supposed to do, I will do it, and I will do even more in 2027. 2027 kwa heshima kubwa naomba kura yenu,” Khalwale slammed Governor Barasa.
The recent remarks has further widened the rift between the two leaders, who have had exchange of words, with Governor Barasa urging Khalwale to do the oversight duty he is mandated to, and stop interfering with the functioning of county activities, and wait for 2027 to ask the people of Kakamega to elect him.
