Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua dismissed claims of attacking and profiling Kalenjin community, stating that his fight is with President William Ruto, and not the people of Rift Valley.
Speaking at a rally in Laikipia County after attending a church service at ACK Diocese Nyahururu, Gachagua said it is wrong to accuse the whole community, when it is an individual ailing the nation, stating that the community voted him as the DP, calling on residents of Laikipia to live with them in peace.
“We cannot let the whole community carry the cross of one person, Mimi nilipigiwa kura na wakalenjin. They are our sisters and brothers, I want us to stay with them in peace. Hawa wakale ni watu wazuri ni watu wangwana,” Gachagua remarked.
He said that the community is also decrying under the leadership of the president, as he has taken all development projects to ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s backyard in Nyanza, despite them not voting for him, leaving the region underdeveloped.
“Hata hao wanalalamika, Kasongo amechukua maendeleo kwa kina Raila na hawakupigia yeye kura. They are complaining like every Kenyan is complaining. I want to clarify, sisi hatuna shida na jamii ya wakalenjin hata kidogo, shida yetu ni Kasongo na ni mtu mmoja,” he clarified.
Gachagua vowed to take Ruto home in 2027, accusing him of destroying the country’s economy, and killed the youths who took to the street to protest against bad leadership, and increased cost of living. He urged the Gen Zs in the county to apply for IDs to ensue that they take Ruto home.
“Huyu Kasongo lazima aende Nyumbani, ametusumbua, ameharibu uchumi, ameaua Gen Z. Nyinyi Gen Z ndio dawa ya Kasongo, get your IDs, so that when time comes for elections, together we sent him home,” he urged
According to him, the community made a mistake of joining the Kenya Kwanza Alliance without a party, which has cost the community in the country’s politics. He said DCP is the party, which will send President Ruto home.
He further emphasized the team including Wiper Party Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K Eugene Wamalwa and Fred Matiang’i, will seat and chose on person to compete with Ruto, after deliberations to ensure they come up with the best candidate.
Earlier, Ruto had urged the team to look for a better agenda to persuade the people of Kenya, as he will not hand over power to people whose agenda is Ruto Must Go, and no tangible plan of solutions to the problems ailing the country. He urge the Gachagua led team to stop using the term Wantam to orchestrate violence in the country.
