Democratic Citizen’s Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President William Ruto, for not handing over power to them if he is defeated in the 2027 general elections by the opposition, for lacking a tangible agenda for the country.
Responding to the president’s remarks during his rally in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua told Ruto that he will not be needed after the country gets a new president, and also acknowledging the president for understanding that he will not secure a second chance in 2027.
Gachagua also taking time to remind the head of state that the Kenya Constitution of 2010, only provides assumption of office, and handing over of power.
“I have heard Kasongo saying in Western Kenya that if he is defeated he will not handover power to people with no plan. Umefanya vizuri kusema utashindwa hapo umepata, but where you have gone wrong, let me tell you Kasongo, there is no provision of handing over in the Kenyan Constitution, what is provided there is assumption of office. Hatutahitaji wewe, kwa rais mpya atachaguliwa na wakenya kuchukua ofisi,” Gachagua responded.
His response coming hours after the president during a church service in Kakamega County at Friends Comprehensive School, said that he cannot handover power to a team whose only agenda is Ruto Must Go.
“Wengine hawana mpango, don’t waste your time. We cannot handover power to people with no plan. Their only plan is Ruto Must Go, how will that help you? You have no plan to do anything!” Ruto remarked.
According to the president, the Gachagua led fraction is clueless and lacks an agenda for Kenyans, as their rallies are full of tribal politics, hatred and resentment. He asked the team to face him incase they have an issue with him, and stop running to Kenyans, promising to deal with them when the right time comes.
” Their biggest job is tribalism, shares and hatred. Their talks is full of resentment, if they have a problem with me, they should not go to Kenyans, but come and face me, nitawamalizia hapo kando,” President William Ruto stated earlier.
