Kikuyu musician superstar Karangu Muraya has responded after Kenyans in the United States booed after a mention of his name at Ngemi cia Ruraya festival organised by Kikuyu living in Diaspora.
While hosting the show popular radio host famously known as Baby Tops allies Muthoni wa Kirumba, hyped the crowd and asked them which other artist will they want to see in the next edition of Ngemi cia Ruraya festival.
The jubilated crowd mentioned famous Mugithi DJ Dibul, Waithaka Wa Jane among others, but the crowd turned cold after she mentioned Karangu Muraya.
The hyped crowd booed at the mention of Muraya’s name, with some chanting that they do no want to see him. When she questioned why the crowd did not want to see him, a section of the crowd murmured that they had not yet forgiven him.
Muraya was among the leaders from the Mt. Kenya region who visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at his Karen residence awhile back, with Rigathi Gachagua calling boycott from their fans for betrayal and dining with oppressors.
In his response the superstar took to his Facebook account, and thanked Baby Tops for mentioning his name and making him famous in the United States.
“Kumbe najulikana yues Thank you Muthoni AKA Baby Top for mentioning my name, nginya thimu yahora
,” Muraya responded.
Taking to his comment section some blasted him for celebrating rejection, while others stating that the mention has given him a milestone in his career;
“Spirit of rejection and someone is bragging about it,” Judith Okello commented.
“Known for the wrong thing is not something to be happy about…. On a light note though,” Annita Chama said.
“Rejected immediately at the mention of your name… we! As is physical its more of spiritual… recheck yourself plz,” Favourish Wisdom said.
“They’ve been supporting you and now you think they didn’t know you?” Geoffrey Omwenga questioned.
“Sha and She made you famous,” Francis Njuguna said.
However, Mugithi superstar was warmly received, and even performed for Gachagua and PLP leader Martha Karua in Seattle on Saturday with a melodious Mau Mau song to usher in Gachagua for his address. He asked musicians to stick to their path of entertaining Kenyans and not coercing Kenyans that the Kenya Kwanza government is delivering.
