Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, has called on Kenyans taking the streets to give chance for dialogue, following chaotic protests currently witnessed in the country.
Speaking in Lamu County on Monday, Kindiki pleaded with Kenyans to allow room for dialogue, and allow peaceful method of resolving differences as a nation, and through chaos, violence and incitement.
According to him, the current situation in the country is not a path that will lead to development of Kenya, but further plunge it into chaos and destruction of the state, as it only threatens the unity, peace and cohesion of the nation.
“I plead with you fellow countrymen, we cannot build this country through chaos, incitement and violence. We must learn to resolve our problems as a country through consultation, discussions and other peaceful means.
His remarks coming as Nairobi CBD remains deserted with empty streets and businesses closed, following the ongoing Saba Saba Day anniversary by Gen Zs, agitating over poor leadership, increased extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances and abductions by government.
Acknowledging the right to hold dissenting opinions enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Kindiki emphasized that every Kenyan has the freedom of having opposing views, including contrary to what the government stands for, but they should look for ways to bridge the difference without chaos.
“Those Kenyans with dissenting views have the freedom to air out their differing views, as long as it is peaceful. Everyone has the freedom to differ with the government as in the constitution, as long as it peaceful,” he emphasized.
He cautioned leaders driving the country to chaos, as it will harm the stability of the nation, and not a path of prosperity. He reminded Kenyans on the importance of a peaceful and stable state, warning against propagating violence.
“There is nothing more precious than peace and stability. Those planning violence and chaos should understand that it is not building the country but destroying the country,” Kindiki warned.
