Naivasha Member of Parliament (MP) Jane Kihara has been charged with proving breach of peace, which Milimani Law Courts linked to the recent Saba Saba protests.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, Kihara’s remarks made on Tuesday, July 8 were quoted, as she accused President William Ruto for orchestrating the protests in her constituency.
Kihara’s charge sheet indicated the the legislator claimed that the goons were transported to Naivasha in a National Youth Service (NYS) Bus and dropped at Karagita; the charge shit further shows she further claimed goons were dropped in Mai Mahiu.
“I want to talk about Naivasha because I know those goons were transported in NYS bus, in a place called Karagita these people nobody knew them, as I condole with the bereaved and also empathies with those properties who were destructed, I want to tell President Ruto this is not a war you can win unless you want to destroy this country,” read part of the charge sheet.
Additionally, the charge sheet reads Kihara’s alleging that the police colluded with the goons to cause chaos and destroy business in the areas, as they watched. In her remarks, she further accused Ruto for misusing his powers and that Kenyans will not him to destroy the country.
“Police are not doing anything, they didn’t try to arrest the goons, we could see in the place goons walking with them, so it is not anything that is going to end, we as Kenyans are prepared to prepare our country so that we cannot be drowned by one single person because you think you are so powerful, yet you have the power which we gave you, you cannot use it to destroy us and the country,” further read the charge sheet.
Kihara was dramatically arrested in Nakuru County on Thursday, as she was held a meeting with her constituents before being drove to the DCI headquarters. Her lawyer C.N Kihara described the charges as inconsequential, and not a caliber for a lawmaker.
The third term lawmaker linked her woes emanating from her political stand to support former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua. She accused the government for troubling her despite fighting for the government in 2022.
Leadrs from the opposition including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka were among a delegation of leaders who were present at the court in solidarity with her.
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji a close ally of Gachagua was also at the DCI premises for grilling after he was charged with sponsoring and organising protests in Embu County.
