Saboti MP and ODM lawmaker has condemned the raid of his Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya early morning on Monday, May 19, by armed and masked police officers at his home in Milimani Kitale.
Amisi has expressed his disappointments to the government for using security agencies to raid politicians without prior notice and lack of evidence as backward and a form of anarchy, demeaning the leader’s family.
“I condemn strongly the arbitrary raid on Governor Natembeya homes in Kitale and Nairobi. These theatrics of using security officers to raid people’s homes without an iota of evidence to what they are searching is backward, draconian, archaic and utterly demeaning to families and kids,” Amisi wrote.
According to the lawmaker, before the officers arrest or raid the leaders home, the officers must have evidence implicating to a case of corruption. He further boldly stated that the use of government agencies and authorities to intimidate opposing sentiments, calling a proper explanation to the residents of Trans Nzoia, as to why Natembeya was arrested.
“Before you arrest or raid a leaders home have proper intelligence reports. It must stop with immediate effect and an explanation given to the people of Trans Nzoia!” Amisi remarked.
Police have been camping at Natembeya’s home, as Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), as head of Communications Stephen Karuga, confirmed the raid and said they are investigating procurement irregularities.
However, over the weekend, Natembeya had dismissed being implicated in any irregularities by audit queries, and had earlier said the government will use that as a strategy to tarnish the names of those criticizing the government, during an interview in April.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had spoken about the arrest of Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti and Natembeya, calling out government for weaponizing the EACC to intimidate leaders who have been opposing the Kenya Kwanza government failures and lack of delivering into their promises.
DAP-K party leader Eugen Wamalwa was at the scene, while addressing journalists, Wamalwa confirmed that the EACC officers had not recovered anything from the governor’s office, and condemned the oppression of the opposition, which he said will not thrive in Kenya, as it is a democratic country.
