A herder was killed on Wednesday, June 7 afternoon in Saku Constituency around the Mid-Rock area, at the border of Songa and Badassa while grazing his herd.
The unfortunate incident that could awaken conflict in the area, was confirmed by Marsabit Central Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) David Saruni.
“Today afternoon our officers were informed of the death of one herder was shot dead in the afternoon in Mid-Rock area, which is the border of Songa and Badassa, as he grazed his herd,” Saruni confirmed.
Investigations into the incident has kicked off, with what is feared could spark conflict at the border area, which will disrupt the peace currently witnessed in Saku Constituency.
The death comes after a similar incident was witnessed in Loyaingalani, when a confrontation began between Samburu herder and National Police Reservists (NPR), which left Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Loiyangalani police post sustaining a gunshot injury on the leg.
According to reports, residents accused the police for escalating the situation, after they first shot at the herders from Samburu County Behind Desert Museum, which saw a fierce gunshot exchange with the officers.
