In a statement from the Senate is scheduled to hold a special sitting on Monday, June 30 to discuss the impeachment motion against Governor Guyo, who was impeached on Thursday after 16 of 18 MCAs voted for his impeachment over violating Leadership and Governance Act.
“The Senate is scheduled to hold a special sitting on Monday, June 30, 2025, to deliberate on the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo after receiving a formal notification from the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba on June 27, detailing the Assembly’s resolution to impeach the governor,” Read the notice.
Following the notice, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has issued a Gazette Notice summoning all senators to convene on Monday at 10:00 am in the Senate Chamber for the proceedings.
Guyo was impeached on accounts of abuse of office, gross misconduct and misuse of public funds. However, confusion continues over his impeachment motion, as High Court Judge Heston Mbogo had declared his impeachment proceedings as unconstitutional.
According to Mbogo, the County Assembly had defied the Court orders, which is a violation of the rule of law, adding that the June 25 Court ruling was not set aside, and still stands.
The confusion is further widened after County Assembly Clerk Salad Boru in a letter circulating online dismissed the impeachment of Guyo, stating that no sitting was held to discuss the impeachment mission.
“We categorically deny and clarify the misleading reports circulating in the media and on social platforms. No sitting was convened or facilitated by the Office of the Clerk to discuss or conduct any impeachment proceedings against the Governor. The County Assembly is fully committed to upholding the rule of law and will not act in violation of any court order,” Boru stated.
Confusion continues to rock Isiolo County, with contradicting remarks from those opposing Guyo and his supporters, causing tension in the County, with MCAs claiming that their lives are in danger after receiving threats and intimidation from Governor Guyo and his supporters.
After the impeachment proceedings, a section of youths allegedly linked to Guyo stormed the Isiolo County Assembly and destroyed impeachment documents and other equipment inside the Assembly chambers.
