A day after Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), demanded justice for the death of two of their priests Father Cheruiyot, who was killed in Elgeyo Marakwet by bandits and James Maina of Nyahururu, who was found murdered days after meeting former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Recently to question the deaths targeting catholic bishops is Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale. During a session in the Senate, he condemned the killings stating that as a country we have shown lack of in dealing with the killings.
Narrating the history of the killings, Khalwale said there is no confidence in security agencies handling murder cases in the country, citing the case of man who shot his son at the back of his head, and it was concluded as suicide, was acted with urgency by the United States, establishing the cause of the death.
Khalwale said the situation in the country now calls for the formation of a commission to unveil the motives behind their killings and deaths.
“We are not serious, I remember when Father Anthony Kaiser of the United States was murdered his mother country sent the FBI, while our security tells us that a man who was shot at the back of his head had committed suicide. Where it has reached, we must call and form a commission of inquiries into the killings of Catholic priests,” Khalwale stated.
According to Khalwale, the killings are not coincidental, and the fact that they are reported as suicide in the media, Khalwale demanded that there must be an inquiry on the death patterns of Catholic priests in the country.
“It cannot be by chance that whenever this priests have been murdered a theory is normally thrown in the media that they have committed suicide, we need an inquiry, I demand there be an inquiry,” Khalwale remarked.
In the statement read by KCCB, they demanded an inquiry to the death of the two catholic fathers to disclosed, including circumstances surrounding their deaths, and the reasons behind their killings.
They further urged the government to ensure safety of the priests and Kenyans henceforth. KCCB raised concerns on the killing of Father Maina as a case of kidnapping and poisoning. Father Maina died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
