Drama unfolded in Trans Nzoia County during Madaraka Day Celebrations, when residents walked out on Trans Nzoia County Commissioner as sooon as he started reading President William Ruto’s Madaraka Day speech.
The event held at Kitale town, saw the county boss George Natembeya skipping the event, citing failure of the government to uphold the freedom that the founding father of the Nation laid their lives for.
In a viral video that circulated online on Sunday, June 1, a section of residents were seen walking out, despite efforts of the security officers and Oyagi urging the residents to remained settled as he delivered the speech.
However, the celebrations went on, and Governor Natembeya’s speech was read by County Executive Committee Member for Health Sam Ojwang’, saw the governor emphasize on deepening youth engagement, expand agricultural productivity, and uphold the spirit of self-governance.
““Madaraka is not just a memory, it is a mandate. A daily summons to take charge of our destiny with courage, vision, and unity,” he stated.
In Natembeya’s speech, he highlighted his focus on renewing youths inclusivity, and a planned launch of structured youths forums in all the Trans Nzoia County’s five sub-counties including Kwanza, Endebess, Saboti, Cherang’any and Kiminini, which will foster direct dialogue between young residents and their leaders in the county.
“Today’s youth are not rebels, they are informed, connected, and protected by the Constitution. We will not respond to tweets with threats or curiosity with censorship,” further read the statement.
After the crowd settled Oyagi read the speech, and further warned the residents in the recent speculations and corrupt leaders, that they will face the law, if implicated on the recently discovered illegal allocation of the Kitale National Museum Land, or any other public land in the county.
“We are working closely with investigative agencies to monitor and take swift action on any attempt to fraudulently acquire government land. This land is not just property, it’s a national heritage,” Oyagi cautioned.
