A section of youths in Moyale Constituency have joined hands to form Moyale Youths Assembly, which will handle issues affecting them, as well as youths across the county.
Speaking after he was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly, Sadam Abdullah said that they will ensure that ignored matters affecting the youths have handled effectively by members of the new Assembly in the country.
Abdullah further added that they will deal with three key menace affecting youths not only in Marsabit, but the whole country, which are unemployment, lack of representation and drug and substance abuse.
“As Moyale youths we united to talk about issues affecting us from unemployment, drug and substance abuse and lack of inclusivity. We are also neglected but not only by the National Government, but also county governments, as we are not fully budgeted for like other marginalized groups in the country,” Abdullah explained.
His sentiments were echoed by the newly elected Secretary to the Assembly Rahma Shuke, who reinforced that the new movement will factor in finding solutions to the emerging challenges affecting the country’s largest population.
“We have elected a youth committee that will be represented in all four wards, I’m happy that it has finally happened after years of failure. I’m so passionate about helping youths and will live to see this movement go forward,” she remarked.
She further called on residents to elect women in elective positions, and try a women led leadership, arguing that women have the ability and capacity to drive development in any society of given a fair opportunity to lead.
“Women can lead anywhere, they can lead and offer good leadership. Not just to direct youths, lets try elect them. For this Assembly is to ensure youths inclusivity in matters of national importance and take chance, like our issues are planned without our input, that is why we need this Assembly, so that we can be represented and contribute on important issues like the Finance Bill
Similar sentiments were earlier shared by Marsabit Women Representative Naomi Waqo, urged women to come out and go for elective posts, as she further urged residents to try the leadership of women. Waqo also called on elders from the county to stop discriminating and denying women an opportunity to lead, claiming that it is an outdated culture.
