M23 rebels have reportedly continued to advance towards the town of Bukavu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), while Rwanda has warned that the group may take control of other areas.
The Ambassador of Rwanda in the Great Lakes region, Vincent Karega, has said that M23 will continue to capture other areas in Congo, and Goma will not be their only target.
However, he indicated that negotiations between the rebels and the Congolese government could be a solution, although he said that he did not believe in the implementation of the matter.
The Congolese government has refused to hold talks with the M23 rebels, which it sees as terrorists supported by Rwanda.
Sources have revealed that the rebels are now approaching the town of Bukavu, while Goma is under the control of M23.
The security situation is still bad, with hundreds of Congolese soldiers and mercenaries from Romania joining the Rwandan army.
Pope Francis has called for a ceasefire, asking the citizens of Goma and other affected areas to be protected.
In addition, the President of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi, is expected to give a speech about this crisis today, but he has said that he will not attend the emergency meeting of the East African Community that will be held in the evening.
