The Director of Public of public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has approved murder charges to another suspect linked to the murder of a 17-year-old refugee girl Gaala Aden Adan at Dadaab Refugee Camp Wajir County in March 22, 2025.
In a statement, DPP said that another suspect Mussa Sheikh, a third suspect was arraigned in Garissa High Court before Principal Prosecution Counsel Bernard Owuor on Thursday, July 9.
Sheikh and others are charged with the murder of Gaala, after she refused a forced marriage to a 55-year-old man at Lolkuta South Sub-location, Wara Location, Hadado Sub-County. The DPP further stated that the third suspect is fit to face trial after a mental report showed he was fit to stand.
“Principal Prosecution Counsel Mr. Bernard Owour informed the court that Mussa Sheikh, jointly with others before the court, murdered Gaala Adan, a refugee girl aged 17, on 22nd March 2025 at Lolkuta South Sub-location, Wara Location, Hadado Sub-County, within Wajir County. The accused person was charged following a second mental assessment report, which showed that Mussa was fit to stand trial,” DPP stated.
Sheikh however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Earlier, the DPP had charged Mohammed Kassim Tiffow, husband to the deceased, and Adan Mohammed Ahmed with the murder of Adan.
According to the DPP, the deceased, born on 1st January 2008, had been married to the first accused, Mohammed Kassim Tiffow 40-years-old, in a ceremony held in accordance with Somali rites on 22nd February 2025, at Dagahaley Refugee Camp.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges before Justice John Onyiego. Justice Onyiego directed that the accused persons be released on a bond of KSh 1 million. The case is set for hearing on 7 and October 2025.
Gaala’s last moments were filled with terror, as she pleaded for help in her own voice recording to her mother, detailing the abuse she endured. Her body was discovered charred beyond recognition, suffering from severe burns, a spinal injury, and numerous stab wounds, a chilling indication of the brutal violence she endured.
