FIRE continues to burn farms in Isiolo County now it is considered as a serious threat to the residents of the area who are pastoralists.
The fire, which has burned nearly 200,000 acres in the Merti area, has been linked to the attempt of breeders to fight ticks in large grazing areas.
Isiolo County Commissioner, Mr Geoffrey Omoding, on Monday said that the fire has so far destroyed more than 190,000 acres. He said the fire has continued to burn in Bassa, Matarba and Sericho areas on Monday morning.
The biggest fire has reportedly started in Malkagalla area of Merti a week ago and continues to burn grass, bushes and trees.
The second fire broke out was in Chaffa near the Lorian swamp, along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Sericho for four days ago.
According to the Manager of Sericho Community Park Nura Halkana, the fire has destroyed about 28,000 hectares of grazing land in the area. However, it is estimated that more than 16,000 hectares have been affected.
